Are you confused about which Teach Abroad program in Vietnam to choose?

There is so much conflicting information. Do you feel completely bewildered at which organisations you can trust, which TEFL/ TESOL course you should take and who has your best interests at heart? If so, I totally know how you feel!

If you read my other blog, you’ll know that I was talking about how I didn’t really get out of my Teach Abroad Program what I was hoping for. How I felt like I hadn’t really had my money well spent. So, the question today is, would I do it again if I was in the same position?

What did I like about my Teach Abroad in Vietnam program?

So, definitely yes, in terms of the pre-departure information. I would 100% do it again. Having that person to talk to, to bounce ideas off, to answer all of my questions, who could answer anything that I wanted to know, was invaluable. It was not just teaching but also about life in Vietnam and the culture. I would suggest that anyone who’s a little bit nervous about moving to Vietnam, or a little bit worried about teaching English overseas, that a Teach Abroad program is definitely the way to go!

Was my Teach Abroad Program worth it?

However, do I think it was a rip-off? Yes. I think the Teach Abroad Program that I did was massively overpriced. I don’t think that I really got my money’s worth. I think that a lot of companies are gaining basic knowledge of the country through Google and then overcharging teachers for that knowledge. They build their own programs to make more and more money. It becomes not so much about the teacher as an individual but more about how many programs they can run. Again, I also didn’t get what I was promised and it wasn’t very clear cut exactly what I was getting. So, from that point of view, I was disappointed.

However, I have often asked myself, would I do it again? Yeah, I think I would. It was the best experience ever, and I’m still really glad that I had that help and support. So, what Teacher’s Friend Vietnam aims to do is give people the opportunity to make a difference. So, I want to keep the vital parts of a Teach Abroad Program but get rid of the overpricing and bring back choice.

What would I like to improve about Teach Abroad programs?

For me, that was another thing that I really didn’t enjoy about my Teach Abroad Program. I didn’t get to choose where I taught, what age I taught, who I taught with, which school I taught at. I also didn’t get to choose where I lived or who I lived with or even what I ate- as the food was provided. I felt like I had to compromise. In order to have that security, I lost my freedom. At Teacher’s Friend Vietnam, I don’t think you should have to make that compromise. That’s what Teacher’s Friend Vietnam is all about.

Why is the Teacher’s Friend Vietnam program different?

So, we want you to have the opportunity to make great savings, to live in an amazing country with a really cheap cost of living, really good wages, to have a perfect work-life balance. And we want to give you ongoing help and support in doing that. So again, it’s not just about signing up, paying us your money and getting sent the pre-departure information. We are there for you right from the beginning until the very end. I am still in touch with teachers who came over three years ago. We are friends and I think we always will be.

I’m so glad to have met so many people from all over the world and to be changing people’s lives and really making a difference. I’m showing people that there’s more to life than just a nine-to-five job. You’re someone that’s been in my shoes, someone who is very similar to me. We’re probably going to have a lot in common. I’ve done a Teach Abroad Program, I know what it’s like, and yet everybody who signs up is extremely important to me. You’re not just another figure. You’re not just another person paying for a package.

So, hopefully, after purchasing a package with Teacher’s Friend Vietnam, you’ll be in the best school that’s most suitable for you, living in the accommodation that you’ve chosen, that you’re extremely happy with. You will have your own motorbike, so you’ll be able to get around. You’ll have that freedom to go out and take trips to the countryside. Of course, you’ll be doing this with all of the new friends that you’ve made both through the Teach Abroad Program. We will connect you with other teachers living in Vietnam. Through our exchange program, you will meet the locals. You will also meet people when you go out for drinks in the local bia hoi, and of course, we can give you all of our insight information on nightlife in Vietnam. You’ll be able to save money straight away because you’ll be sent to the best local cafes and restaurants with the best local prices.

So, it really is a lifestyle change, and we really do set you up for success. We want you living this awesome life as soon as possible.
